If triggering pre-made loops is your goal in live performance then obviously APC-40 is the choice for you. With a little scrutiny you can easily see how Maschine and the APC-40 don't even serve the same purpose. Spend a week with Operator and you can use it blind folded(Which isn't a bad thing Operator is one of my favorites) but use FM8 and you'll never truly learn it with the kind of half-assed effort most new synth owners give' you'll need to seriously review each feature and deconstruct the presets to create quality originals. Spend a few months with Reaktor and you're still a newbie. In other words, spend a few months with Ableton and you can impress your friends.

What I mean by that is that they see two square controllers and immediately start bashing Maschine. Some Ableton jockeys are one-note musicians, in other words they stopped challenging themselves as far as learning software when they recently upgraded from Fruity Loops to Ableton. Inevitably, Maschine is being pitted against the APC-40. Ableton's biggest challenge is coming up with more product extensions so you can justify the pandemonium and keep things fresh.
